The Shunda Creek Recovery Centre is a 12 week, 18 bed wilderness based addiction recovery program for 18-26 year old men.  The program addresses substance abuse issues that require in-program recovery and support in an isolated environment.  Shunda Creek supports family involvement and strikes a balance between addiction recovery, building on family strengths, aftercare planning, experiential learning, intentional adventure, and community experiences. The aim is to support young men and their families in creating lasting, positive change. As an adult this is your journey; you must be the one to consent to participate no matter what led you here.  

Admission Criteria

• Must be an Alberta resident
• Males ages 18-26 years
• Remain alcohol and drug free for a minimum of 5 days prior to the date of admission
• Shunda Creek is a tobacco/vape free facility. Nicotine Replacement Therapy(NRT) is available
• Physical ability to engage in wilderness based activities
• Stable on medications with no medication that are on the restricted medication list located in the application package
• Able to make an informed decision about participation
• Able to participate in a group environment 

Once accepted into the program, participants will be immediately enrolled into the pre-treatment program. This program provides additional support for individuals who have applied to join Shunda Creek and are waiting to begin their recovery journey. We recognize that this waiting period is a crucial and often challenging time — and we want to ensure participants have the guidance and connection they need during this phase.

Through the pre-treatment program, participants will receive:

• Online group sessions designed to foster connection and preparation for their Shunda Creek journey
• One-on-one sessions with our licensed therapist for individualized support

Sessions are held Monday through Friday, from 1:00–2:30 PM. Participants are expected to attend two online group sessions per week, along with one individual session each week with our therapist.

We believe this program will help bridge the gap between application and admission, offering meaningful support and structure as participants prepare for their recovery journey at Shunda Creek.
