The Program – ExCel Discovery
Enviros ExCel Discovery is an Open Custody program in the province of Alberta and has six (6) spaces for youth who have an open custody sentence. The program is designed to meet the needs of adolescent young offenders who have been sentenced to complete a portion of their custodial time in the community. ExCel Discovery is the only Open Custody group home in the province of Alberta. ExCel Discovery offers an integrated treatment setting with enhanced programming in the areas of addictions, education, mental health and reintegration. The overall goal of the program is to support young offenders in successfully transitioning from being in secure custody, to life in the community.
The Position
This position will be based at ExCel Discovery and will include direct involvement and support of the program, staff team, youth, and community partners. This position will be part of the Enviros leadership team and will ensure that day-to-day operations follow program protocols and Enviros policy.
Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of staff members up to 10 individuals
- Consultation and reporting to the Custody Operations Branch
- Collaborating with the Calgary and Edmonton Young Offenders Center
- Ensure all Accreditation standards are upkept and met
- Completion and overseeing of documentation and case management
- Complete scheduling to ensure program is properly staffed
- Active member of the leadership team
- Oversee and approve staff timesheets, and time-off
- Supports group care on-call on a rotational basis
- Attend all leadership meetings
- Conduct staff meetings
- Along with the program manager, ensure that the budget is reviewed and adhered to
- Provide regular supervision of staff members
- Provide support when needed to clients
- Recruitment, staff performance evaluations and staff training as required by CAC guidelines and ensure all staff training are current
- Oversee household health and safety standards and overall housekeeping duties

Education & Experience
- Post-secondary education in a Human Services related field
- Experience and demonstrated skills in supervising staff
- Experience working with youth affected by trauma
- Experience/ Knowledge of the Youth Criminal Justice Act is considered an asset
- CPR and first aid certification
Other Qualifications
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (Class 5 GDL will not be accepted)
- A clean driver’s abstract containing not more than two (2) minor offences or one (1) major offence
- Police Record Check with Vulnerable sector check (within six (6) months)
- Child Intervention Check (within one (1) year)
